Newberg, the City

Population 18,064.  Newberg is 25 miles South and a bit West of Portland on Rte 99W.  From I-5 you would first travel West through Tigard and Sherwood before reaching Newberg. I do not consider this within commuting distance from downtown Portland.

Newberg is still a cowboy town with a lot of people that are second and even third generation residents.  In the last 20 years, it has discovered that the soil and topography are perfect for wine-grape growing.

George Fox University, a small private Christian school, also adds a unique flavor to the community.  Housing is significantly cheaper than the Portland Metro area and some new home neighborhoods are being built.  This is also a good place to find an affordable home on acreage.  Newberg is not a computer town and has no high tech employment to speak of.  A City Slicker would probably be a bit uncomfortable here.
