Tualatin is a great community about 10 miles south of downtown Portland along the I-5 corridor. This is a bedroom community with a lot to offer. I consider Tualatin to be a strong middle class suburb. Prices are affordable, the schools are very good and the commute into downtown Portland is around twenty minutes.
Tualatin and Tigard share the same school district. There are two High Schools one called Tigard and the other Tualatin. The schools are ranked very high and you can check out their web site at: www.ttsd.k12.or.us
Homes vary from the much desired area of Indian Meadows which has homes built in the 1970′s-1980′s. Sidewalks make it possible for kids to walk to Byrom Elementary located in the center of the neighborhood. This area has a large number of large cedar and pine trees which give it a natural look. One level homes with about 1400 square feet can be found for around $250K making this a great area for first time home buyers. This neighborhood also has larger homes in the 2000-3000 square foot range topping out at around $350K. I have had several clients in the past that moved to larger homes but insisted on staying in the same neighborhood. Another area of Tualatin is located around Ibach Park. This is a relatively new area of larger homes built in the last eight years. Prices start in the low $300′s and move up to around $600K.
Many of the neighborhoods have lots of trees. Tualatin is known as Tree City, USA because of its commitment to planting and maintaining trees. There are also natural areas around the city meant to protect the stream corridors and to provide walking and biking paths that are tranquil.
Tualatin holds several events during the year including the Tualatin Crawfish Festival, Artsplash, Concerts on the Commons and more. These are usually held on the Tualatin Commons. This is a little lake surrounded by a walking path and seating as well as a businesses, restaurants, office buildings and a hotel. It’s not for swimming, but is very enjoyable to be around especially in nice weather. There are also squirting water fountains nearby that kids LOVE to run in during our hot days (and even not so hot!).
There is lots of shopping in Tualatin. There are several strip malls with some chain stores including Fred Meyer. One of Portlands newer outdoor malls (at exit 290 off of I-5) is Bridgeport Village. It consists of many upscale stores including Ann Taylor Loft, Coach, Cole Haan, J.Jill and so much more. Several restaurants are here as well which include California Pizza Kitchen, Romano’s Macaroni Grill, McCormich & Schmick’s Grill and more. Many of these restaurants are award winning! The largest resident is a 16 screen Regal Cinema with one of the largest IMAX theaters in the area.
