Kings Heights, Portland

Kings Heights is one of the first residential areas of early Portland.  It is uniquely located just a few blocks above the popular NW 23rd Street Shopping District.  Since this neighborhood was built on a hillside, the streets can be narrow and most of them remind me of the switchbacks I encounter when hiking up a steep hill.

The homes are old and stately and most have small lots.  This is an area of ‘old money’ and quite elegance.  Many of the homes still retain all of their original splendor.  A big concern is parking.  Not all homes have garages and street parking is a premium.  But the trade offs are impressive.  These homes have wonderful views of the City, the River, and Sunrises over Mt. Hood.  Most homes are within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants located on NW 23rd.  From there you can take the trolley to almost anywhere in Downtown Portland.  A short walk up the hill is Washington Park with the Japanese Garden and the International Rose Test Gardens.

Prices can be steep (upwards of a million). But just yesterday, I saw a really nice 1930s with all the original woodwork, a two car garage and a view listed for $679K.  Sure, it still needed some updating, but this Kings Heights. Take a look at what is currently available in King’s Heights.
