Portland Real Estate Appreciation

By Jolynne Ash

July 27th, 2007 ·

Contrary to all the negative reports by the media, Portland is still in an appreciating real estate market.  Sure, it has shifted from a Sellers Market to a Buyers Market, but properties are still selling.  The current year to date appreciation is at 6.4% which is lower than the last four years, but is still a strong number.  I would expect us to end the year in the 7-8% range.

Over the last five years, Portland-area home prices have increased 67.4% according to a study published by CNN, Money. Not bad if you ask me.

Now is a great time for Buyers, inventory is high so there is lots to choose from, and Sellers are motivated. Interest rates are holding at about 6.5% (they were at 5.875% three months ago) but could go up at any time.
