Commuting Transportation is Expanding

By Sharon Roberson

January 19th, 2007 ·

It looks like there’s continued expansion of the Portland MAX, aimed at commuters.  It will take 2-3 years but riders will be able to go from Downtown Portland to East Portland and Clackamas area without transferring MAX trains.  This should shorten commute times for those wanting to take the MAX and make the commuter life a little easier not having to deal with traffic.

There are more tracks being put down and stations added.  One new set will allow commuters to easily get to the OHSU tram.  This is to be focused on the South Waterfront area.  The tram has been operating for employees of OHSU, but opened this week to the public due to our snowy winter storm.  Originally, the tram was supposed to open to the public on January 27.  On the 27th, rides on the tram will be free to the public as part of its’ Grand Opening.  Go down and have fun!

There’s a little more commuter news to the south.  The MAX line is going to be connected to Tualatin, Tigard and Wilsonville in the next couple years.  It will be interesting to see how this works out.
