Sherwood Oregon: RANKED 18TH BY MONEY MAGAZINE

By Sharon Roberson

August 28th, 2007 ·

Sherwood was just ranked 18th best Places to Live by Money Magazine.  Lake Oswego is the only other Oregon city on the list and it ranked 32nd.  The criteria used to determine the top cities in the US are:  “low population (less than 50,000), good schools, safe streets, economic opportunity, things to do and a sense of community”.

Sherwood does have a low crime rate and has a great family environment.  Sherwood population is close to 15,000 and located southwest of Portland.  There are a number of events held in Sherwood annually that creates that small community feel and draws attention.  Some of these are the Robinhood Festival, summer series of Music on the Green, movies in the Park during the summer, Cruisin’ Sherwood, holiday parades that include EVERYONE and so much more.  There are numerous parks around and very family friendly.  Snyder Park has a small water feature with sand for kids to enjoy as well as some FUN play equipment that even gets the adults involved.  Stella Olsen park has play equipment, stage for Music on the Green and other activities, walking paths and lots of nature.

There has been and will continue to be updating of Old Town.  This is an area of about four square blocks that have lots of character.  There is a new Library building that also houses City Hall and has the Saturday Market.  The streets have been redone and added character with brick crosswalks and blue lampposts.
