Green Living Tips From Portland Oregon

I completed the Earth Advantage Green Broker Certification this week and have so much information to share that I will post at least once a week a great tip on saving energy in the home.

We all know that front load clothes washers use about 50% less water than the traditional top load models.  However they do cost more to purchase.  To make this easier Energy Trust of Oregon is offering a cash incentive of $100. if you purchase a qualifying model.  In addition, the State of Oregon is offering a tax credit of 25% of the cost up to $180. Now I’m not suggesting that you go out and replace your five year old top loader, but I am suggesting that if you are in need of a new washing machine that you seriously consider one of these models.  www.EnergyTrust.org

Do note the difference between cash back and a tax credit.  The tax credit is a far greater overall savings. There are rumors that the Feds will also be offering a tax credit of their own very soon. I love free money!

Energy Tip 1: Wash everything except towels, bedding and maybe jeans in cold water. I started doing this at the beginning of Summer and have not noticed any difference in the quality of cleaning. I also turned off the ‘extra rinse’ option to save additional water and energy.
